I.JORDAN leads new community-focused project for trans and non-binary artists

Nov 1, 2022

There’s a new creative residency for trans and non-binary musical artists in northern England.

Trans_Formation is a project by Doncaster-born producer and DJ I. JORDAN with Brighter Sound and Generator. The residency will run over six days in January 2023, with five days in Newcastle of collaborative production and performance and the sixth day will centre around a performance at new Manchester festival TRANUARY, highlighting trans UK talent. Artists Ifeoluwa and TAAHLIAH are also on board for the workshops.

The residency is seeking applicants from wide-range of musical practices, including producers, DJs, vocalists, composers and instrumentalists. Applicants from the North of England (North East, North West and Yorkshire) will be given priority, and the programme notes, “We’re particularly keen to hear from marginalised intersectional communities including Black, South Asian and ethnically diverse people and people with lived experience of disability.”

“Trans and queer spaces are powerful and transformative, but there are not enough dedicated spaces that specifically allow artists to just create,” I. JORDAN said. “We will be using the power of community to harness our creativity. I can’t wait to see what we make together.”

Find more information on the residency and how to apply here. The deadline is 11 PM on Monday, 12th December.
